Rules Changes

A golfer may now use any means to remove loose impediments from his/her line of putt, provided nothing is pressed down.  In addition, there is no longer an automatic penalty in either match play or stroke play if a ball off the putting green moves after a loose impediment within a club length of the ball has been removed.

These are two of the amendments to the Rules of Golf that have been agreed upon by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association.  They go into effect Jan. 1, 2004.

A summary of the rules changes for 2004 are available from the USGA at www.usga.org.

Golf Etiquette

Take care of your course, repair ball marks.

Ball marks, those indentations caused when a ball lands sharply on a soft green, have been ruining good putts since the days of Old Tom Morris.  Unrepaired ball marks take two to three weeks to properly heal, leaving an unsightly and uneven putting surface.  A repaired ball mark heals in half the time.
